In this workshop, we will discuss plot-driven and character-driven fiction, beginning with the genres associated with each. Through several examples, writers will learn that the most compelling stories seamlessly integrate character and plot. We will discuss in depth the relationship between the story structure and the main character’s emotional journey. Writers will be given a comprehensive lesson on story structure and plot, including but not limited to Freytag’s Pyramid, story beats, and creating conflict. Writers will also learn how to create compelling characters, how to develop the main character’s arc and emotional journey, and how to interweave that journey with the rising actions, climax and ultimate resolution of the story.
