  • Adapting Novels for the Screen: From Writer's Isolation to Producer's Collaboration

Joel Eisenberg is an indie author who also works creatively in the film and TV industries. As someone who has both adapted books into screenplays and optioned fiction to adopt, Joel's perspective is unique. In this one-hour session, he will discuss the myth of what producers are looking for, the pitfalls of adapting one's own book into a screenplay or teleplay, as well as the immense rewards if successful, and how to be retained on a project when producers offer a buy-out. He will discuss the virtue of managed expectations, and the realities of the industry. Most important, he will offer specific strategies as to how to navigate the system to your advantage. Joel knows the path well; last year he sold his acclaimed, print-on-demand fantasy novel series to Ovation TV for an eight-hour event miniseries, scheduled to air in 2017.
